EA has announced Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, the third installment developed by Visceral Games, will release next year. The co-op title takes place on the “deadly streets of Mexico,” as Alpha and Bravo find themselves dropped into the middle of a drug war conflict for an assignment “full of corruption and deceit.” “We wanted to refresh the Army of Two franchise for a new generation of action gamers, and at the same time, stay true to the core concept that really made the first two games fan favorites,” said Julian Beak, executive producer, Visceral Games. Sony Santa Monica has posted a look at the Elephantaur – a Minotaur hybrid – which you will be fighting in God of War: Ascension. Apparently, inspiration for the anthropomorphic elephant originated with God of War III, but the idea was scrapped. Add in the fact that Izzy, its concept artist, was once bullied by an elephant in Thailand, and you have yourself a monster you can hack and slash in order to exact revenge for Izzy. Namco has announced pre-order bonuses for Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch via GameStop and Amazon. Those who pre-order the PS3 title through GameStop will net a SteelBook case with new art, and Amazon pre-orders will provide an in-game giffy familiar which can be upgraded to the griffurnace and griffrigerator. Plus, there’s also the Ni No Starter campaign which increases the bonus items the more the special edition is pre-ordered. You can track how well the pre-order goals are being met through here. JAW and Oddworld Inhabitants have said to expect news on Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee HD during gamescom. That’s good news, right? But wait, there’s more. With more Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee HD news set for September, the firms are calling on the community to help provide a title for the game. Metal Gear Solid 4 long-overdue trophy patch is hitting PS3 in Japan this coming Monday August 6, Andriasang reports. The patch will include trophy support and reduced loading times via a full install option. It will come pre-packed in a Metal Gear Solid 4 re-pack launching in Japan next month. Konami is officially unveiling the re-pack at a Metal Gear 25th anniversary event in Tokyo on August 30. The race to Platinum the excellent Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is going to be gruelling. Konami has revealed a partial roster of digital trinkets for the 2008 PS3 exclusive, and it includes some toughies like “Obtain all iPod tracks”. You’ll need to unlock every single one of the game's emblems to achieve that which is, well, going to take some time. According to the band’s legal representative, Bert Deixler, the band has “suffered losses of millions,” and Activision’s “meritless” appeals have continued to delay the case,” he told Gamespot. The case has been going on since 2009, when the band filed a suit against the publisher over Band Hero players being able to use band members’ images in songs not its own. The band said this turned them into a “virtual karaoke circus act”. Hide/Show Signature

Were you one of the many Borderlands players who wanted some more customization options for your character ? Of course you are. Let’s be serious, changing the color of your character’s scarf is a nice little detail, but it’s a joke to call that “customization.” Luckily, Borderlands 2 will give you plenty of options to mess around with when creating your character. But wait, there’s more! Talesofpandora recently reported that bosses in Borderlands 2 will also be dropping skins that allow you to customize your character’s look. Not a bad idea. Kieken revealed that Ubisoft Annecy is sharing multiplayer development duties teams from the Bucharest and Shanghai studios, and that the multiplayer portion has been in development since Revelations wrapped, with the majority of staff signing on once the game shipped. Ubisoft has planned for a dedicated multiplayer support team to continue working on the title post-launch, with community events already mapped out. EA Sports still refuses to make a statement on SSX’s rumoured head-to-head multiplayer update, but it’s confirmed it anyway, via the medium of teaser video. Unfortunately, the video only shows online head-to-head multiplayer; there’s still no indication of couch versus mode. It’s also not yet clear whether the new mode will be added via paid DLC or a free title update; the game’s Twitter describes it as “content”, which could go either way. The PC re-release of Final Fantasy VII apparently went live over the weekend – but was quickly pulled after complaints of DRM failure. Joystiq reports the classic RPG was apparently briefly available via its website for $12.70, but the site is back to displaying a “coming soon” message. An explanation is easily found; Square Enix forum users report the game’s SecuROM DRM failed to authenticate automatically or manually, locking users out of the game. It’s unclear whether Square Enix pulled the game because the DRM needs a fix, or whether it isn’t working because the game was erroneously released early. The PC port will apparently be one of Square Enix’s gamescom headliners, and will include a number of new features like a character booster and cloud saves. An Ubisoft forum member has posted what appears to be an in-development screenshot of an unannounced Prince of Persia game. The unverified screenshot includes a watermark labelling it as Prince of Persia Zero, a codename used by Ubisoft for a PS2 game which would have taken the prince into the modern era. it was cancelled, so even if the screenshot is genuine, it may be something dug out of the archives rather than indication of a new game. The last Prince of Persia games were a 2008 effort for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which rebooted the series again following waning mid-2000′s success, and The Forgotten Sands, a 20120 multi-platform affair ignoring the second reboot and tying in with the Hollywood film.
