Bethesda parent company Zenimax has trademarked “Dawnguard.” But what izzit? Anyone who’s played The Elder Scrolls should agree that it wouldn’t feel out of place as the first DLC expansion for Skyrim, given that The Order of the Mythic Dawn and the city of Dawnstar exist in the lore.

The trademark’s description (via) also appears to support the possibility: “Computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the internet and wireless devices.”

Then again, with Bethesda recently hiring for iOS development, and the Elder Scrolls Online rumor, it could be anything, really.

Anarchy Reigns (マックス アナーキー Makkusu Anākī?, lit. "Max Anarchy") is an upcoming online beat 'em up game currently in development by Platinum Games. It is their fifth game of their publishing deal with Sega and is being produced by Atsushi Inaba and directed by Masaki Yamanaka.[2] It will be released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in July 2012.
Anarchy Reigns is described by its developers as an 'online action combat' game, in which players control one of various types of fighters as they use extravagant moves to defeat their opponents. There will be a variety of multiplayer modes including Tag Team and Battle Royale.

Following up on earlier news, a post on Famitsu’s website gives us the first look at Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s Mass Effect outfit DLC.

Look below to see Noel and Serah don Commander Shepard’s famous N7 armor.
Japan will get the DLC next Tuesday, on March 27. It’ll set players back 300 yen ($4) on PS3 and 400 MS Points on the 360.

No word yet of western audiences will get the outfits too.

The new trailer further reinforecs something that I, working at the costume shop in my college, already know: it takes a lot of work to make something look horrible. That’s not really the right word for this bus though. It may be beat-up and bloody, but it still looks amazing.
Check it out for yourself at the cut, or outside of PAX on April 6th. Chances are if you hang around long enough, you’ll probably spot me. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Good morning! Grasshopper Manufacture has just popped out this cool trailer for their insane upcoming zombie-slaying gore-fest Lollipop Chainsaw. Said trailer shows off just some of the interesting costumes that main character Juliet will be able wear whilst prancing around killing zombies.
These include costumes from popular manga/anime series such as High School of the Dead and Kore wa Zombie desu ka. Some of the costumes look pretty awesome(especially the Manyu Chifusa one), so hit the break to check out the trailer if you’re interested. Lollipop Chainsaw will be available for PS3 and Xbox 360 on June 12th.

The Premium Edition snags you some things you won't get in the regular game, such as:

An unlock code to have both Japanese voice actors for Juliet (each console version has a different voice actor).
100 free Zombie Medals (in-game currency)
Premium Costumes

The Premium Edition is supposedly the same price as the standard copy, so you won't be losing any money at all!

Depending on which console you get Premium Edition for depends on which costumes you get. The PlayStation 3 one lands you the Cutie Waitress and Multi-Boarder Bikini (Suda 51's names, not mine) whereas the Xbox 360 version will give you the Sexy Rider Suit and Shell Bikini.

Bored hackers have been searching around in the code of the Dead or Alive 5 demo included with pre-orders of Ninja Gaiden 3. Their findings? A seemingly complete list of all the characters that will be in the full game. Characters listed include both returning characters and new characters. Especially noteworthy are the alleged remaining Virtua Fighter cameos.
Considering Dead or Alive 5 isn’t scheduled to come out for six months, this rumor is easy to ignore. That said, the list seems extremely legitimate. Dead or Alive 5 will be available in North America this September. Hit the break for all the gritty details.

The rumored returning characters include: Bayman, Hitomi, Christie, Brad, Lisa, Eliot, Ayane, Lei Fang, Hayate, Kokoro, Bass, Leon, Helena, Gen Fu, Kasumi, Hayabusa, Jann Lee, Tina, Zack and Alpha-152(the boss of DOA4). The two rumored new characters are Mila and Rig. Finally, leading ladies Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan will supposedly join Akira and round out the Virtua Fighter cameos.
In my opinion it’s just too early to wholeheartedly believe a rumor like this. Even if this stuff was found in the demo’s code, the game is so far from release any of this could change. At the same time though, Team Ninja has never really removed characters from newer installments (coughSoulCaliburVcough) and they only usually add a couple of new characters for each entry. Those facts make the list seem like it could be spot on.

Bioshock enthusiasts, prepare to be Bioshocked (I am so sorry for that pun, but I just can’t bring myself to delete it). Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has left pre-production on the Bioshock film adaptation, following on the heels of Gore Verbinski.
Fresnadillo, in an interview with Indiewire, says “Right now it’s on hold. The studio and the videogame company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating.” This may come as a relief to gamers who are sick of seeing their favorite stories unceremoniously butchered on the silver screen, though to be fair Uwe Boll wasn’t on board for this one so there was still some hope.

As it is, Bioshock creator Ken Levine isn’t too broken up about the loss. In an interview with industrygamers, Levine stressed that, “for us there’s no burning [desire] to have a movie made just to get it made,” Levine stressed to us. “For us and for Take-Two, it’s really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don’t know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is it going to be a good representation of the game.”
With this kind of attitude, hopefully the hiatus will prove beneficial to the final version of the film — or, should they fail to come to an agreement, it might prevent yet another abominable, half-assed film from continuing the already underwhelming tradition of video game movies in general.

An interview between Siliconera and Telltale games’ CEO Dan Connors gives us some insights into Telltale’s upcoming The Walking Dead adaptation. As combat has never been Telltale’s forte, this more story-based take on zombie survival might come as a breath of fresh air to some players — though others, having played Jurassic Park and Back to the Future, may prefer the stagnant reek of decay that comes from more classic zombie shooters.
In any case, the premise sounds interesting. Connors says that, “we think the rules of the world  are really what makes it interesting for people.

We wanted to take some liberties in storytelling and kind of create a new story that provides more backstory into what’s going on with the show and with the comics.”
The story will follow a criminal named Lee, whose motivation (besides not wanting to be eaten, which is pretty legit) is to find redemption in this world gone awry. When asked about Lee’s personality, Connor says, “Well, on some element, he is a reflection of the player’s choices. Because you’re in a moment, you can pick three or four different things to say, but they all have different paths. You’re not just working your way through a dialogue tree, you’re choosing how you present yourself to the characters in the world.” Dialogue choices are only part of the deal, as in many episodes Lee will be forced to make decisions which will end in the death of a character.

Just who dies, and under which circumstances, will determine how other characters interact with Lee; whether they will trust him, abandon him, or possibly attack him is left in the player’s hands. As survival in such a situation is largely dependent upon the cohesion of a group, a player will have to manage their team carefully.
Still, shifting the emphasis from action to storytelling doesn’t mean you won’t have to take out a zombie or three along the way. “In some cases, they’re going to be people who you know who’ve ‘turned,’” Connor explains. “We’ve really made it about a real visceral kind of attack feeling. In the first episode, I think you have an axe. You have a hammer. You have something like an ice pick. In most cases you’re either using stealth or reacting and swinging and using an action to kill zombies.” Stealth elements will function sort of like puzzles, in that a player will be best served by carefully formulating a plan of attack and sticking to it.

Zombies will be attracted to sound, so distraction will play a key role in safely navigating heavily infested areas. This context-specific type of zombie encounter sounds like it could be quite interesting, if executed properly.
Regarding continuity between the comic, the AMC series, and the game, Connor says, “We’ve really invested a lot of effort into fleshing out the back stories of the characters. If it was something they’d [either the comic or the show] want to plug back in, we would be obviously ecstatic about that. Robert [Kirkman] is doing the comic on one hand, the show has its own screenwriters on the other, and Robert sits in with that. Ultimately, he makes the decisions on that kind of thing.”
We’ll see how it all turns out when The Walking Dead drops on PC, PSN, and XBLA.

EVE Fanfest 2012 is in full swing and CCP Games just released a new cinematic trailer of EVE Online and Dust 514.
The trailer follows the “One Universe, One War” philosophy that permeates the synergy between the two games, and it looks downright fantastic.
What side of the fence will you be on? Will you play the PC MMORPG or the Console shooter? Maybe both? While the idea of bombarding FPS players from orbit entices me to no end, I’d be lying horribly if I said that I’m not going to crawl in the mud in Dust 514 as well.

Ubisoft Annecy is once more behind the wheel of Assassin’s Creed III‘s multiplayer mode, it’s been found out.

Ubi Annecy is the same studio that provided the online components for both Brotherhood and Revelations. This time though, there is a new lead designer in place.

Reads designer Tim Browne’s Twitter description: “Lead Game Designer on Assassin’s Creed III Multiplayer @Ubisoft – Annecy.”

Browne hasn’t been involved with the franchise prior to this. He’s past work include the recent Operation Flashpoint games, Dragon Rising and Red River.

With Ubisoft focused on single-player reveals so far, nothing is yet known about AC3‘s multiplayer, nor the 2-4 player online co-op mode that slipped out via an Xbox Live listing a while back. We really hope that one  wasn’t just a mistake.

CEO of Rebellion, Jason Kingsley, has stated that the studio’s recent titles have “not been as good as I’d have liked”, adding that the studio had been through some “difficult years”.

Speaking to GamesZines earlier this month he said: “Nobody sets out to make a bad game, but you set out to make the best game you can in constrained circumstances.”

Rebellion has seen tough reviews from critics, as their recent releases such as NeverDead, Alien vs Predator, Rogue Warrior and Shellshock 2 were all merited poorly.

“You have people who go, ‘there’s no excuse, you should never make a crap game’. They have a valid argument, I guess.

You never aim to make a bad game, but sometimes you don’t have the time to make things in the way you’d like.

“Other times the game comes out earlier than you were expecting and there’s not a lot you can do about it if you’re a ‘work for hire’ developer. That’s how the job goes.”

However, Kingsley hopes to put Rebellion back in the limelight with their next release, Sniper Elite V2.

“We’ve worked very hard on Sniper Elite [V2] to get the greatness back. We’ll see what people think. I think we’ve made a very, very good game indeed. I hope it reviews very highly. We’ll see what people think, but fingers crossed we’re back to greatness.

In a recent interview with GamesMaster Magazine, Yoshinori Ono touched a little on Tekken x Street Fighter and its current development progress. According to Ono, the counterpart to Capcom’s recently released Street Fighter x Tekken is way behind schedule, going as far to say Namco Bandai’s team have yet to create a single design document.
Ono: “It might take a really long time to come out because they haven’t made a single design document yet, so they’re way behind schedule. But we definitely trust them, so whenever that game gets out the door we think they’ll have a really good thing.

“Just to reiterate that point, they really haven’t made any progress on the game at all. It might be 2018 before the game comes out for all we know, and in the mean time, we want people to enjoy Street Fighter X Tekken. Hopefully we can make it past the Mayan end-of-the-world apocalypse at the end of 2012 and then maybe they can get around to making the game.”

Both games were announced at Comic-Con 2010, but Namco was reportedly holding off on developing their game until Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was closer to completion. I suppose all we can do at this point is appreciate the concept art that was previously released and pray that Ono’s joke doesn’t become a reality.

Producer Naoki Yoshida has detailed the contents of the upcoming patch for Final Fantasy XIV. And yes, before you ask, people do still play that. Patch 1.22 will bring a host of additions to the game, most notably Garuda, a tough new primal. Said primal will supposedly give players ” the fight of their lives”. The patch will also add new storyline and world quests,  Materia, job exclusive weapons, areas, items, and balance tweaks for the Materia interface and job system. I’m pretty sure that’s a lot of content. This loaded patch will be available sometime before the end of April, but no other release details are currently available.
