Next January sees the return ofSSX, arguably gaming’s most popular snowboarding franchise. But said return is long overdue; the last game, SSX Blur, released back in 2007 on Wii.EA hopes that the wait for the next game won’t be quite as long, then. As developer EA Canada’s communications boss Duke Indrasigamany told MCV: “We don’t want to wait another five years to bring it out again on PS4 or Xbox 720 or whatever.“But it depends on when the next consoles are due. I don’t know what Microsoft or Sony are planning, but if SSXis successful there’s a lot of things we could really explore. We don’t want to see this franchise go away for a long time. We want to make another one.”

PlayStation software took slots in four of the top five selling Japanese games this week, with PSP title Legend Of Heroes: Ao no Kiseki taking the top-spot. The saga that is the Bethesda vs Mojang battle of Scrollscontinues this week as the Minecraft dev’s Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has revealed that he offered to alter the company’s Scrollstrademark to appease Bethesda. The Elder Scrolls developer wants blood over the use of the trademark, just in case you’ve missed the action. All sorted, then?Not quite; Bethesda refused Persson’s suggestions and instead pursued legal action. As Persson explained on his blog: “We realized we should apply for the trademark “Minecraft” to protect our brand. When doing so, we also sent in an application for “Scrolls”. When Bethesda contacted us, we offered both to change the name to “Scrolls: <some subtitle>” and to give up the trademark.“They refused on both counts.”

WOW Bethesda is becoming the DICKS of development. Mojang offered to change & Bethesda acting like assholes when most gamers that buy Morrow Wind Oblivion or Skyrim don't even think about the Scrolls in the title.

When Gran Turismo 5 launched, Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi said it was only the start of the journey. And true to his word, GT5 has received updates on an almost monthly basis, fixing issues and implementing new features that players requested.Now, on October 11th, Gran Turismo 5 will get its biggest update to date. Spec 2.0 will include a variety of headline features, the most notable being the inclusion of a cock-pit view for each of the game’s “Standard” tier cars. Brand manager Penrose Tackie observed that “the level of detail will vary from car to car”, but regular players will appreciate what a big inclusion this really is.

What an extraordinary story. L.A. Noire developer Team Bondi was subject to enormous critical acclaim before getting hit by an employment scandal. And now it is no more. The studio entered administration in late August, with its assets supposedly sold to Australian production company Kennedy Miller Mitchell.Despite critical and commercial success, a prolonged development cycle took its toll on Team Bondi concluding with the studio’s closure.Rockstar holds the rights to the L.A. Noire IP, so technically we could see a sequel to the ambitious series in the future. Don’t hold your breath though.

Back in July DeNA announced that it had signed five of Japan's biggest game developers to create titles for the company's Mobage mobile virtual world / social network. Fresh details and screenshots for No More Heroes Mobile, arguably the biggest of the five games, are beginning to trickle out.
The screenshots show familiar hero Travis Touchdown doing work with his iconic Beam Katana. In a recent press conference Marvelous described the game as a "social assassin battle." As this descriptor indicates, No More Heroes Mobile will have both cooperative and competitive multiplayer. No US launch for No More Heroes Mobile has been announced, but with the Mobage social games platform available now on the US Android marketplace, a US release seems likely.

Disney Universe’s roster of represented properties keeps on growing. Y’know, we really liked Enslaved, but there’s an irony to developer Ninja Theory’s whiny public perception. Prior to Enslaved’s release, studio gaffer Tameem Antoniades talked up the benefits of going multiplatform after its previous PlayStation 3 exclusive project — Heavenly Sword — didn’t meet expectations.But since Enslaved sold similarly poorly, the studio has turned its attention to Namco’s supposedly stingy marketing budget.“I think it’s always a difficult equation, isn’t it? It’s like it’s not enough to just make a game,” Antoniades told Gamasutra. “All the ducks have to be lined up, and those ducks include the creative ducks, like the theme and the content. I wonder whether Enslaved was a bit too fantasy, or off the mainstream fantasy, on one hand.

“But it needed support, it needed a drive, a big push, and I don’t think it necessarily got that. I really kind of hate it when people make, say, ‘Oh, marketing didn’t support it,’ but a new IP needs to be visible, and I didn’t feel like it was. A lot of people still even haven’t heard of the game.”Antoniades went on to say that he was “puzzled” by publishers not giving new titles support.“Why bet on triple-A if you’re not going to spend for triple-A? You can’t have it both ways. But, you know, I think we’re proud as a team that we’ve got the game done, we got it on time. Forget one gun, Max Payne doesn’t do things by halves. In a batch of new screenshots for Max Payne 3, Rockstar has shown off the moody character clasping weapons in both hands. It’s all looking rather dark and gritty. Which we suspect is exactly what fans of the series have been clamoring for.
