For a series that’s so popular, there’s a bit of a negative buzz surrounding God of War: Ascension. We suspect it’s not because the game looks bad – it doesn’t – but more that it seems overwhelmingly familiar. It’s hard to disagree. Still, there is the hint of some new mechanics in this single-player trailer. At one point Kratos freezes a foe in mid-air before eviscerating him with a series of lethal attacks. That’s sort of new, right?

Yep, a special edition for another big blockbuster game is coming, this time slashing the throats of the competition in the form of a pale-skinned Greek god who’s not actually a god in this specific prequel but will be in his future endeavors.
Pre-orders are now available for God of War: Ascension Collector’s Edition for $79.99, which comes bundled with a Kratos statue, a steelbook game case, the game’s soundtrack and a “pass for future DLC content.

Oh, and there’s also a pre-order exclusive called the mythological heroes multiplayer pack that includes the armor of Achilles, Perseus, Orion and Odysseus if that interests you. Does this mean that various retailers will be offering different content depending on where you pre-order the game?

According to EA president Frank Gibeau, the Dead Space (Dead Space 3) franchise needs about five million fans to "survive". He says it's due to financial reasons, (i.e. the cost of development and the cost to market the games) even though Dead Space sells well. However, if one were to look beneath the surface, they would see, what ultimately is the COD effect. Which is EA wants to compete with it just as other companies do, thus there is a high possibility that Dead Space will go the action route, just as Resident Evil did.
It's amazing that EA would make such a bold statement, five million fans (which the source states is roughly the entire population of Norway) are needed to keep a game series going, that's selling. Greed comes in many forms, this is just one of many seen from EA.

Prior to the release of War God of War: Ascension Sony released again a God of War Editon Omega, which is shipped with a bronze statue of Kratos.
The Omega Edition includes the God of War Collection Volume I & II and God of War III, which are stuck in a Steelbook with special artwork. The statue is numbered only in a limited edition and individually available.
Publication is planned for November 2012. How much cost the noble Edition is not known.

You didn’t think the Dynasty Warriors franchise was going to take a break, did you? Tecmo Koei has released a new trailer for the upcoming Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires expansion which, well, looks a lot like you’d expect a Dynasty Warriors title to look. The game’s due out on 20th September in Japan and sometime next year in the West.

You may start of wanting to protect the new Lara Croft, but at least one Crystal Dynamics employee hopes players will come to identify with the character’s strengths. Speaking to EDGE, Tomb Raider art director Brian Horton said Crystal Dynamics doesn’t want to make a game “about a girl” just so male gamers have something to fancy.
“We’re making a game about someone who is inexperienced and who has to learn how to become a hero,” he said.
“Now, the fact that she is a woman is not lost on us, and that’s an important part of the dynamic of it being Tomb Raider, but it’s not our primary conce

Horton’s message so far echoes that of director Ron Rosenberg, whose comment that players don’t want to project themselves on Lara Croft stuck in the throats of many fans. But the art director seemed to suggest that this protective feeling is just the first step of the emotional journey Crystal Dynamics is aiming for.

Tomb Raider is expected on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in early 2013. An arguably sexually threatening overtone in media and demos out of E3 2012 sparked something of a furore among critics and fans alike, with Crystal Dynamics backing away from some comments made to press. The idealistic cloud city of Columbia may not be picking up new passengers until 2013, but publisher 2K Games would love you to take a trip beneath the waves to Rapture instead. The eagle eyed editors over at Eurogamer.net spotted a rating for the BioShock Ultimate Rapture Edition earlier today, which supposedly collates the first two underwater adventures with each of their respective DLC add-ons. 2K Games has yet to comment on the bundle, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it got an official announcement soon.

Ubisoft appears to have big hopes for Watch Dogs, the new property it revealed at E3; the publisher is already snatching up domains for a movie.
WatchDogsMovie.com and several variations of it have been secured, Fusible has noticed.
This is probably them watching their backs then, just in the case of the game becomes a monster hit, which the debut gameplay’s reception suggests just might be the case.

EA let the new Dead Space game out the bag at this year’s E3. VG247 got to see more of the game and speak to John Calhoun, producer on Dead Space 3. Bug squashing after the jump. Dead Space 2′s multiplayer really wasn’t something to shout about, and it seems like a good decision for them to ditch it. Now they’ve brought in a co-op system that really does sound like a lot of fun.

Dead Space 3 is out February 2013 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Rezzed will feature not only the UK’s first playable code of Gearbox’s co-op shooter but also play host to an appearance by Randy Pitchford, who will be on hand to present a live demo session and sport an audience Q&A.
The gregarious Gearbox CEO will be on-stage from 2pm on Friday July 6.
Rezzed takes place on July 6 and July 7 in Brighton, UK. Tickets are £12 per day or £20 for both days and are available from the Rezzed website , along with all the details on the show and its confirmed line-up.

The image through the break was provided by VG247 forum member, Moonwalker1982, and appears to show new Ubisoft IP Watch Dogs being interacted with via a tablet computer. The image shows a map on the tablet screen while Watch Dogs features on a standard TV screen and could perhaps offer a glimpse of the kind of thing we could expect from Microsoft’s SmartGlass app. Microsoft is making an announcement tonight at 6:30pm EST, which is widely expected to concern its own range of tablet PCs.

In recent twitter responses to fans, asking for Anarchy Reigns release date outside of Japan (i.e. NA/EU) SEGA responded that: Quote "Anarchy Reigns has been re-evaluated for a 2013 Q1 release. The irony is that the game was set to release July, a month in which there is no competition whatsoever in NA for Anarchy Reigns. If anything SEGA should know that big name games are coming out in Q1 of 2013, and Anarchy Reigns is in no position to compete with them. It's highly likely that Anarchy Reigns will be cancelled for NA/EU.
The game is still set to release in Japan on July 5th, and will be fully localized. (i.e. English audio, text and language) So, it's import friendly, if you're willing to pay extra to have it.

Platinum Games’ online beat-’em-up Anarchy Reigns will be releasing in Europe and the US some time in the first quarter of 2013, Sega has announced. The publisher shared this news via a tweet, in response to a number of queries made by fans.
“The release of Anarchy Reigns has been re-evaluated. We now expect to launch in Europe and America in Q1 of 2013.”
The game which is going to release in Japan next month had some clouds hanging over its head regarding a western release, after Sega decided to postpone its release in the West and skipped showing the game at E3 this year.

This, and the publisher’s restructuring of its Western business to focus only on core IPs after a disappointing set of financials, had led many to speculate that Sega’s decided to shelve its plans of releasing the game in the West entirely.
The game is going to release on July 5 in Japan for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Fighting fans are still waiting for Capcom to release the 12 on-disc paid DLC characters for Street Fighter X Tekken that caused that huge controversy just before the game’s release. Since that time, other developers have given their take on the issue, such as Tekken head Katsuhiro Harada. Now, Team Ninja lead Yosuke Hayashi has chipped in his two cents. Hayashi-san says that selling characters makes the game “unfair” and feels that one player having access to more characters than another is equivalent to one team having more players than the other in a game of soccer.

Furthermore, the team has no plans to sell any characters for their upcoming fighter Dead or Alive 5. That’s definitely a relief, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be any DLC character – just that they won’t sell any. What’s your take on the matter?

The newest issue of Famitsu magazine has revealed that Capcom is preparing an HD remake of the unique and acclaimed adventure game Okami. The Japanese name of the game is Okami Zekkie-ban. While this could have been the perfect opportunity to introduce the title to Xbox audiences, Okami Zekkie-ban will unfortunately be a PS3 exclusive. It will also be compatible with PlayStation Move. The vivid art and deep game-play of Okami makes it fair game for a an HD remaster. Okami Zekkie-ban will be available in Japan this November.
