Subject: Game Group gets new CEO Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:30 pm
Now that it’s found a buyer and is out of administration, Game Group has announced a new CEO following the former, Ian Shepherd’s resignation.
Martyn Gibbs is the new boss, MCV reports. He had previously been managing director of Gamestation, the other half of the Game Group, before leaving in mid-2011 to handle games at other high street retailers like WHSmiths and HMV.
“I am delighted to be leading GAME back to success. Our immediate priority is to help the GAME and Gamestation teams, so they can give our customers a great Easter in our stores and websites,” said Gibbs of his appointment.
He now faces some huge challenges, like securing stock from suppliers once again after several of early 2012′s biggest titles failed to come to GAME and Gamestation stores. This will also have to be done with a reduced number of stores (333 to be precise) and a loss of over 2,000 staff.

Whatever sacrifices struggling publisher THQ has had to make, Turtle Rock Studios’ in-development FPS isn’t one of them.
In a tweet (via), THQ’s Jeremy Greiner said he’s “starting work on the campaign for my next FPS, which is being made by the creators of Left 4 Dead.” That would be Turtle Rock.
“This one is gonna be amazing.”
THQ has previously praised the project highly, saying it’ll include an “original, groundbreaking multiplayer experience,” though it’s been many months since we’ve heard anything about how it’s coming along.

That comment originates from May of last year, and the silence looks to continue; “Nothing coming for a while,” Greiner responded when quizzed if an announcement would be forthcoming soon.
“Rest assured, when we start talking about it, you’ll know.”
Not even the name of the title is known, though there’s been some speculation about that.

Stardock published a new trailer today for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. The narrator describes the war going on between the TEC, Advent, and Vasari in the next chapter of the Real-Time Strategy game. The video describes a peaceful world, thrown into battle from an invading alien species. Nothing good ever seems to happen when aliens show up and people have forgotten how to fight back. It doesn’t help that yet another race shows up as well. Everybody starts fighting everyone else and each other.

Gorgeous 2D brawler Skullgirls is due out on 11th April on XBOX 360, but a PlayStation Network release date is still unconfirmed. Reverge Labs’ community manager Peter Bartholow triumphantly touted the date on NeoGAF, but warned that a PSN release had not been finalised. He speculated that an 10th April launch is probable on Sony’s storefront, but didn’t seem especially convincing either way. When it does finally arrive, the long-in-development beat ‘em up will retail for a reasonable $14.99. Who’s planning on picking this one up?

With the possible introduction of an R18+ age rating, Australia is hoping to phase out the MA15+rating that has led to many a game banning or censoring over the past few years.
In South Australia, though, it looks like the MA15+ rating could remain, but require customers to have ID proving they’re over 18 years of age to purchase. South Australian Attorney-General John Rau had initially proposed the complete removal of the 15+ rating, but a spokesperson recently confirmed the rating will remain.

That might seem pointless but it does mean that parents would have complete control over what games teenagers could play. The legislation will be proposed in parliament next month, following its approval by the South Australian cabinet.
It’s an odd one, then, but if it helps bring about an end to censorship in Australia, we’re all for it.

Subject: Amazon launches Instant Video on PS3 Tue Apr 03, 2012 8:36 pm
You’ve got an Amazon delivery. No, not at the door, but on the PS3.
The online retailer has just launched its Instant Video app on Sony’s home system. Much like Netflix, it allows for renting and purchasing streaming videos. Amazon Prime members can transfer benefits over to the console edition, which can now be found under the My Channels tab on the XMB.
It needs quick download but, other than that, happy viewing.

Subject: Desmond to have huge presence in Assassin’s Creed III Tue Apr 03, 2012 8:44 pm
We’ve been so enthralled by Assassin’s Creed III‘s American revolution setting that we’d forgotten all about Desmond, the present-day chap whose ancestry ties him to Altair, Ezio and newbie Connor.
But Ubisoft certainly hasn’t forgotten about him. In fact, Matt Turner, the game’s leader writer has confirmed that the Nolan North-voiced character will have a bigger presence than ever in this latest edition. “All I can say about Desmond’s story is you’re going to experience more Desmond than you’ve ever had before. We’re spending more time on the present than we have in past games,” he told CVG.

“It’s a big part of our story and I don’t really want to give too many details away because I want people to experience what that is. But rest assured, you’re going to see a lot of Desmond. More so than in any past game.”
You might recall that ACIII is meant to be the game to bring an end to Desmond’s story. Where the series goes from there is anyone’s guess.

EA’s booted up the first footage of its licensed UEFA Euro 2012 expansion pack for FIFA 12. The content – set for release on 24th April for £15.99 – will see EA’s club-focused soccer sim transformed into a patriotic party, with all of the international teams from the summer tournament included, in addition to a host of new modes and features

Subject: Akuma Stars in New Asura’s Wrath Screenshots Wed Apr 04, 2012 12:10 pm
Players of Asura’s Wrath have a white haired, dreadfully powerful demon to be concerned with. Street Fighter‘s Akuma will be making his way to the game via DLC on May 15th, and today we have a pair of screens of him to share. He’ll be priced at 160 MSP or $2. Akuma fits in with the game’s style just too well; he actually looks quite a bit like the main character. Asura is cool with all those arms or whatever but Akuma has the Messatsu. End of story, game over, done deal bro.

Subject: Street Fighter X Tekken Tournament Update Coming April 10th, Swap Costume and Free Color DLC Out Now Wed Apr 04, 2012 12:20 pm
Today is April 3rd, which means that the free color DLC for Street Fighter X Tekken is out! These colors should add some variety to the mostly banal black and white custom color palettes everyone has been sporting online. There are three packs with four colors each for a total of 12 new colors. The other bits of free DLC add additional preset combos. These quick combos cost meter but allow you to pull off a quick, useful combo perfectly every time.

In addition to blessing fans with this generous helping of free content, Capcom also revealed the release date for the tournament update. This update will add a new gem selection interface intended to streamline the process at tournaments. Players will be able to download it April 10th. Alongside the tournament update, a patch alleviating the online sound issues will be released. Nice job with the ongoing support Capcom!
Tecmo has released a new trailer for the upcoming DLC for Ninja Gaiden 3. This DLC includes an assortment of paid and free content. For free, you can download a new multiplayer map, a raised level cap and the Falcon’s Talon weapon for use in the single player mode. The “Ninja Pack 1″ is premium DLC and will cost you $10 (800 MSP). This will add new equipment to customize your ninja, new trials and the Metal Claw weapon, the multiplayer equivalent of the Falcon’s Talons.

The content included in the Ninja Pack can also be purchased individually. Additionally, a new Ultimate Ninja difficulty will be available for free download from April 24th. Nobody knows when the much discussed and highly anticipated Devil May Cry series reboot DMC will head to home consoles. Capcom has been unusually protective of details regarding the game, no doubt because of the great controversy Dante’s redesign has spurred. Despite this, an online retailer apparently has the skinny on the game’s release date. According to UK based retailer Zavvi, DMC will be available on August 10th.

If this date is to be believed, then release trends indicate that the game would be available in North America a couple of days before this. I see no particular reason to believe this rumor, but it is easy to feed into with Capcom being so stingy with legitimate details. On top of that, it contradicts earlier beliefs that the game may not drop until next year. Even if it is the real date, it’s still quite a while away. Until then, I’d keep waiting on hard facts from the horses mouth.

A new trailer was published today to showcase a new map pack for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. If you thought that the game had enough maps already, well think again. The four new multiplayer areas will be called Old Quarter, Oasis, London Streets, and Graveyard. Each maps have its own unique features including various hiding spots, sniper’s nests, watery graves, and a mess of places to have all out gunfights. The DLC will be available for purchase on April 10 in the PlayStation Store.

Time to mark those calendars, folks who can’t get enough of Activision’s movie tie-ins; Men in Black: Alien Crisis will land in stores on May 22nd, a few days before the new flick arrives in theaters on the 25th.
You won’t be playing as Agent J or K though. No. Instead, you’ll be newbie agent-in-training Peter Delacoeur.
The game will be out for the PS3, 360 and Wii, with the PS Move Sharpshooter and Wii Zapper supported.

Goichi Suda, the man behind No More Heroes and Killer 7 (above), is working on a new game called Killer Is Dead. According to the upcoming issue of Famitsu, Suda is directing this assassin title. The game apparently takes its cues from both Killer 7 and No More Heroes. Killer Is Dead, however, is an original game. The game follows a protagonist on a mission to rub out his killer.
Killer Is Dead is like a "Dark Side 007" and features James Bond style Bond Girls and sword play, much like No More Heroes, but with new twists.
Killer Is Dead is slated for a 2013 release on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
