You know the biggest news related to Soulcalibur V; and now you can see the game's biggest box. Namco Bandai revealed the book-style collector's edition for the game, which includes the usual soundtrack and art book, along with a making-of video and exclusive downloadable White Knight and Dark Knight (not thatDark Knight!) armor sets for the character creation mode. The CE will be available alongside the standard edition on January 31. No price was given, but it looks classy, which no doubt adds a couple dollars to the total.

Speaking of class, Namco also unveiled a pre-order bonus from an as-yet-unspecified retailer: Dampierre, the Waluigi-looking fellow from Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny. You'll find lots of images of him, along with Ezio, new character Leixia, and returning characters Raphael and Nightmare, in our gallery.

Last July, spacefaring game developer Richard Garriott won $28 million in a court case against former employer (and Tabula Rasapublisher) NCSoft, claiming that he was forced to sell his stock in the company at a low point in the market following his termination. NCSoft appealed the decision, and, after more than a year of further legal struggle, an appellate decision was reached in the 5th Circuit Court: Richard's getting paper "It would be unjust to allow NCsoft to sit back during trial, observe Garriott's litigation strategy, and then demand a new trial on damages when it dislikes the verdict," the ruling reads. Garriott's former victory was not only upheld -- NCSoft now owes him $32 million with interest and attorney fees.

The StarCraft 2 preview for Heart of the Swarmon display at BlizzCon 2011 last week was pretty much the same thing we saw a few months ago on the Blizzard campus. Fun as it was, we instead used our short time talking with with Blizzard's lead art director Samwise Dider to have him let us in on just how Blizzard is able to make StarCraft's three races so darn iconic.His answer was pretty simple. "Protoss," he says, "they're basically elliptical and circular. Terran are basically angular and square, and Zerg are very erratic and organic and spiky." Sounds plain enough.

Citing anonymous sources "familiar with the game," Kotaku reports that Grand Theft Auto V will take place in a Rockstarified version of Los Angeles, one of the cities mocked up in an earlier installment in the franchise, San Andreas. We suppose the locale makes sense -- wouldn't adapting it be as easy as taking all their assets from L.A. Noire, then applying 75 years of wear, tear and technological progress to the structures therein?

At this point, I think GTA is obsolete compared to the Saints Row series! I mean Saints Row main character is essentially you, whereas GTA's is a character Rockstar created, GTA can't compete with a gamers created character! plus Saints Row is so over the top GTA can't measure up!

I didn't like GTA because of the bad controls but the biggest turn off for me was the main characters. I like the open world of GTA however i never cared for the main characters of any of the GTA games. If i can't have some sort of interest in the main characters then i don't care what happens to them or the storyline progresses.
SaintsRow SaintsRow2 & SaintsRow:The3rd has character creation in which you build the main character to your interest, you put time & effort into the main characters themselves so naturally players will care a bit more over how something they've created progresses through an environment.

Until last month, you could have called Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode the biggest secret in the video game industry -- unless you recall EA Chief Operating Officer John Schappert's comments that every EA game shipping in fiscal 2011 will have an online component. Developer BioWare has said little to hint that the mode even existed. But then the multiplayer confirmation story spread across the Internet, prompting a very mixed reaction from fans of the series. Some welcomed the idea; others completely dismissed it. And to some degree the arguing makes sense: Mass Effect plays like a fun science-fiction action role-playing series. Up until now, multiplayer has not been a part of the series' DNA.

recently had the opportunity to play an early build of Mass Effect 3's new multiplayer mode, called Galaxy at War; the easiest comparison for the new multi-user dungeons is "Horde mode" -- the survival-focused cooperative game mode of Gears of War 2, but with some RPG elements. Galaxy at War pits a squad comprised of up to four players against multiple waves of enemies. You do not play as series protagonist Commander Shepard or any of the supporting characters from the Mass Effect series in this mode. Instead, Galaxy at War has its own character creator, and you'll construct a soldier based on one of six available races. Through repeated play, you'll tackle missions and win resources for the Galactic Global effort that goes on in the single-player campaign. BioWare reps confirm that your customized character from multiplayer will make an appearance in the main campaign as well.

Although multi-user dungeons have not been a part of the series, customizable character classes and abilities are a staple. Actions you complete in multiplayer will grant you XP and credits that you can use to customize your character. New weapon customizations are also a part of Galaxy at War, but the feature was not available in the build I play. Galaxy at War mode offers some variety by constantly switching objectives with each successive wave. Besides having to tackle a slew of increasingly challenging enemies and survive, you'll also have to deactivate enemy scramblers, defuse bombs hidden in the environment, or activate special communication arrays. A lot of the objectives are point-A-to-point-B stuff that mirrors the typical mission structure of the single-player campaign. The difference now is that it's all happening on one map.

I start out using pre-made classes, and find myself on a map taking place in Noveria using a Human Infiltrator -- ME's take on the stealth class if you don't recall. Other quick refreshers: my character can use either a sniper rifle or a pistol as a base weapon, and three special abilities mapped as to B, Y, and Right-Bumper. I can activate my tactical cloak to sneak around and get a bonus for shooting enemies while cloaked, incinerate incoming foes and their shields, or use a flash bang to disorient them while firing away from a distance. Unfortunately, using my sniper rifle on a corridor-focused map of Noveria isn't as fun as I expect -- I have trouble lining up shots and therefore stick to using my pistol for a majority of my time with this class. My sniper rifle inflicts a lot of damage, but I don't feel that there's enough wide-open space for me to use it.

I play the Infiltrator again on a map called Slums and do much better. The stage has more elevated areas, allowing me to be a much better sniper for my squad. We battle a mix of Cerberus centurion and assault troopers, and even survive an encounter with a hulking Atlas -- a super large and powerful robotic suit that slowly lumbers toward the group firing heavy weaponry. The potential for some cool-looking combos is also present too. A teammate can activate a Singularity while I shoot from a distance. Or we can all fire our abilities at a cluster of incoming enemies. The enemies themselves get much stronger over time, and make completing objectives difficult in the later waves.

The Infiltrator is not my preferred class, but spending time with an Adept class later on helps restore some of my confidence in Mass Effect 3's Galaxy at War. Potentially, the mode feels fun with a squad of four people -- especially if you're playing with friends -- but the mechanics for going into cover and shooting just aren't as tight as other cover-based shooters. Mass Effect is an action-RPG hybrid with plenty of shootouts, yes, but these mechanics still aren't the defining pillar of the series. Instead, the RPG elements continue to stand out -- with genuine character interactions and the ability to play Shepard however you want. This is the main reason people play Mass Effect, but none of that is present in Galaxy at War. It's also still unclear how necessary Galaxy at War actually is since it's optional. Or how resources gained will affect the war effort in the single-player game.

BioWare and EA are taking a risk with Galaxy at War, but it's still early to cast a strong judgment. My time with the mode ranges from genuinely fun to frustrating, but I still enjoy the teamwork aspect. I only hope to see more improvements as we get closer to the March release date, and an opportunity to see the new weapon customization mode later on.

Why don't just freaking get it over with & go Phantasy StarOnline already because that's what this looks like. Just separate the multiplayer aspect from the core game, go MMO & charge a monthly fee.
1. This multiplayer isn't necessary
2. The time it took BioWare & EA to put this together could've been time spent improving the main game
3. It screams WE DON'T WANT GAMERS BUYING IT USED! So we'll tack on multiplayer as a lame reason to add an online pass requirement.
Why add a feature that'll have gamers focused on replaying it instead of the main game. It'll add replay value but give gamers a reason to neglect replaying the main story, that's what happen with DeadSpace2 & it'll happen here. How many hrs of play went into MP.I played DeadSpace2 multiplayer to the point where it completely removed the horror aspect of DeadSpace2 & nothing surprised me. So why take that away from a game that's strength is it's single player campaign.

SaintsRow SaintsRow2 & SaintsRow:The3rd has character creation in which you build the main character to your interest, you put time & effort into the main characters themselves so naturally players will care a bit more over how something they've created progresses through an environment.

...as it would appear that EA and other gaming companies are deadset on making sure gamers pay for an online pass. I think a lot more gaming companies will be stupid enough to do the same, (i.e. adding online multiplayer just to get money from selling an online pass.

EA's digital PC game distribution service, Origin, is already home to more than 100 games you can purchase and download immediately. Of course, every single one of those games is an Electronic Arts product. That will soon change, as EA plans to make good on its promise to offer third-party games starting next month. Chief financial officer Eric Brown said last month that Origin would offer third-party content "very soon." That could have meant days or months; in this case, 'very soon' equates to the month of November, as starting then games from THQ, Warner Bros.
