When Namco Bandai showed off the "bad girls" of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 over the weekend, we also got some info on a bikini-burstin' pre-order bundle. If that piqued your interest then you'll love the summertime bikini trailer, which shows that the folks behind Tekken don't discriminate when it comes to stuffing men, women, and animals alike in revealing threads. That's about 100 swimsuits for those who pre-order Tekken Tag Tournament 2 at GameStop, Best Buy, or Amazon. Once you start playing Tekken in a bikini, is it actually possible to stop? We'll find out when the fighter hits North American PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 11.
Assassin’s Creed III creative lead Alex Hutchinson said yesterday during a Ubisoft press conference, that it was time the story of series protagonist Desmond Miles ended. According to Hutchinson: “It’s more like the Twilight Zone. There’s always a guy introducing it and he’s there every episode, but each game completes its own story, ” he said via Polygon.
“Assassin’s Creed 1 was Altair’s story. Ezio has been and gone. You can engage with these historical stories individually without having to necessarily understand Desmond’s story. But yes, we eventually do have to wrap it up. “I think what you do is you finish it.
I always pitched it to the guys on this game to think of it almost like Star Trek. Each game is a season… each big number is a sub-title. We’re not changing the universe, but we’re being given the reigns to the equivalent of The Next Generation. Yes, it’s the Star Trek universe, and that has certain immutable laws and there’s a base kind of tone to it, but within that you can do whatever you want.
“I think Desmond needs to end, at some point. You know what I mean? Things that go on too long lack resonance. We’re asking people to remember seven years worth of story. Which is like saying you were in junior high and now you’re finishing college. And you need to remember what you were doing in junior high.”
Hutchinson said the only constant with Assassin’s Creed III, is Desmond, as the game itself contains a new character, story, period, mechanics – much like a new IP.
“Without Desmond, we could have called it anything else, and people would have said okay,” said Hutchinson. “It’s just we like the wrapper of being an assassin and being in this continuing war against Templars. There’s huge value in that. But [AC3] is 90% a new game.”

Dead Space 3 executive producer Steve Papoutsis has elaborated on the various routes available to players in the game, which he says will provide alternative experiences for various play styles. The various paths in the game will provide players with a more tailored experience, like with previous Dead Space games, or if they are the adventurous type and prefer to go off the grid, they can do that as well; however, Visceral can’t guarantee what may happen should the player decide to act haphazardly.
“Think of the game having a variety of hubs, and then there are spokes that come off those hubs,” Papoutsis explained to OPM.

“There will be other paths available through the game just for you to go out there and find, and figure out what’s going on.”
The inspiration for a more open environment to the series, was inspired by the cooperative option the development team added with Dead Space 3. It became “really important” for the team to add more to the game for players to do and see, allowing them to experience more of it.
“There’s a lot of motivation that we hope drives the players to go explore the world and see what’s around,” said Papoutsis. “There are a lot of motivators in Dead Space 3 that are really going to promote a sense of exploration and getting off the beaten path – and scares aplenty. “When you choose to go off the rails and explore stuff off the A to Z path, now you’re into an area that’s not that tailored, scripted, authored experience because we don’t know you’re going to be walking through this door at this exact moment, like in Dead Space 2.

So it is a little bit different, but the trade-off is we’re allowing players to experience more game, and experience it with friends. And hopefully that trade-off is a good one for players. “If somebody chooses to just jump into single-player and play it A to Z and not do any of the beta content, they still have that very tailored experience that they have come to expect.
“That feeling of dread and claustrophobia? That can be derived from the elements out in the cold. When you have a white-out condition, you can’t see what’s in front of you, now you can have enemies coming out of the mist at you, or popping out of the snow at you. So you can create that, even in an open area. That’s one way we’re gonna do it.”
Dead Space 3 is out in February 2013 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Sega of America has pushed out a pile of new tutorial videos for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. Having already covered basic gameplay, the team has turned its attention to in-depth character breakdowns; this is something of a must for any serious fighter fan looking to get on board the latest revision before it hits the tournament circuit. I’ve dropped Jean’s in below the break, but visit the publisher’s YouTube channel for the rest of the series.
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is available now for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Playstation 3 gamers who have been anticipating the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD have finally been given something to nibble on: Robomundo recently posted a message on Facebook finally stating when the game will come to the neglected console. Luckily, it’s coming out soon – just a month’s wait, in fact. The statement applies to the PC version as well:

We intend to release the PS3 version the last week of August or early September. While the game does have a short period of exclusivity on Xbox 360 from being in Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade, that has nothing to do with the PS3 release date at this point. We want a bit more time to polish the game and want the PS3 version to be as sharp as possible. We hear your pleas on Facebook and Twitter! Thanks for your patience, we’ll have an exact PS3 (and PC) release date soon.

The cliche of patience being a virtue is all-too-true with the upcoming Crysis 3, as is further evidenced by a new round of screenshots released by Crytek this weekend. The new CryENGINE is truly showing its colors (and shading, and lighting, and…) in these few screenshots, which are just a taste of what’s to come next year. Unfortunately, fans awaiting the release of Crysis 3 are going to have to wait a little longer to enjoy the game on their own monitors at home; Crysis 3 is slated for release sometime in 2013, but there is no set release date as of this time.

An alleged GameStop leak has apparently outed serious DLC plans for Assassin’s Creed III. Kotaku received an image of what is said to be a message circulated to GameStop employees, as a thank you for meeting pre-order goals.
The letter states Ubisoft is busy “creating a complementary development team that will begin work on post-launch episodic content”.
Employees are asked to inform customers of a “season pass” on Assassin’s Creed III DLC, which will presumably give access to all DLC released during a set period of time.

Interestingly, the pass is mentioned as an additional pre-order item, rather than appearing as a free bonus with pre-orders or special editions.
Both Brotherhood and Revelations received one major post-launch DLC pack – The Da Vinci Disappearance and the Lost Archives respectively – but otherwise DLC for the series has been largely contained to multiplayer expansions and launch day bonus content.
Assassin’s Creed III is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at the end of October, and will arrive on PC before the end of the year.
Kuju’s confirmed it’s assessing Silent Hill: Downpour studio Vatra’s business after EG.cz reported that the Silent Hill studio’s to close, GI reports. Said the company in a statement: “The new management team at Kuju have been conducting a strategic review of all aspects of the business, as part of this process the on-going business activities of the Vatra studio are currently under review, however, at this stage no decisions have yet been made.”
Tekken head Katsuhiro Harada disclosed a very interesting new detail about Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in a recent interview. Apparently, teams consisting of two characters who like each other will trigger the ‘rage’ mechanic faster than less harmonious teams. That basically means that friendly teams will deal more damage than teams made out of enemies or rivals.
Harada-san used father son combo Heihachi and Kazuya for an example, saying that because they have a very rocky relationship, they accumulate rage rather slowly. This sounds like a very cool mechanic. Hopefully Jun and Asuka like one another, because that will be my team. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be available this September.
Six years ago at E3, Square Enix announced one of the titles that would be a part of their planned compendium for the Final Fantasy XIII franchise, entitled, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The game was to be a part of their Fabula Nova Crystallis collection, an epic saga of titles spanning multiple gameplay styles and consoles, all within the same universe. So far, Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 have been two of the three games released as a part of the saga. Final Fantasy Type-0 was originally known as Final Fantasy XIII Agito; though the title is not uniform with the other games, it still shares the same mythology.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been popular among fan circles ever since its initial unveiling. The title has been shown sporadically at various events, and officials at Square Enix have periodically released statements acknowledging the lack of a consistent stream of information regarding the game’s development, but have commented that the game is still on track to be released sooner rather than later. Kotaku recently claimed in one of their reports that the title was recently cancelled within the last few weeks, a move that allegedly severely demoralized all of the staff at Square Enix. Square Enix apparently elected to thus forego any public announcement of the title’s cancellation, out of fear that such an announcement would hurt stock sales. It is alleged that they hoped that the title would simply disappear in time, and become vaporware.

RPGsite now claims that their sources within Square Enix have assured them that the game is still alive and being developed, with an appearance scheduled for the Tokyo Game Show. It seems that an appearance at TGS will make one rumor, and break the other; finally putting the speculation to rest. Unless a public statement is made by Square Enix, we must continue to indulge ourselves in more rumors and speculation, amidst rumors and speculation. The Tokyo Game Show will be held from September 20th to the 23rd, 2012.
