I like Call of Duty as much as the next guy (unless he’s a Battlefield fan), but it has no place in my Killzone. KZ3’s set-piece heavy campaign often felt all too similar to sneaking round a conflict with Captain Price, or a nail-biting extraction mission with Soap. And the lighter, tighter controls reflected the same change. That’s not what Killzone is about.
The gunplay desperately needs to have that weight injected back into it; lugging your rifle round, slowly bringing up the sight and letting the reticule thrash about like a cat in a shower was the defining feeling that set Killzone 2 apart from the herd. These mechanics were pivotal to rooting players right down in the experience and making them feel like a soldier in war rather than a heroic killing machine. No, it’s not the most accessible FPS on the market, but that’s a good thing. It’s an intriguing middle-ground between Call of Duty and Operation Flashpoint. Oh, and the SIXAXIS sniper-scope idea from 2?

Notice how I’ve only been talking single-player so far? Well that’s because the series’ online component has been consistently brilliant since it reached PS3. I’ll admit Killzone 2 has the slight edge for me, but 3’s modes were relentlessly entertaining too, offering a true alternative to the industry’s heavy-hitters.
We could see room for improvement though, especially on the co-op side of things. KZ3 packed a tacked-on split-screen co-op story option, but we’d like to see more innovative additions to the mode. How about some missions that are co-op tailored, or the series’ own brutal rendition of Horde? With shooters these days we want the complete package, and as Sony’s flagship FPS, Killzone should be offering a compelling mix of competitive and cooperative play.
Wishful thinking? We’ll have to wait another month to find out. I have complete faith that Guerrilla can prove that Killzone 2 wasn’t a fluke because I’d hate for part 4 to go all Quest for Peace.
Subject: PS3 owners get Mass Effect 3 bonuses for free Thu May 10, 2012 12:33 pm
Making up for their sluggishness, BioWare and Sony have made available some of the bonuses given out during the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer weekends PlayStation 3 owners weren’t included in. Available in the store now should be the goods from both Operation Goliath and Operation Raptor, free of charge.
This week’s Operation Silencer will bring further goods, but these ones you have to work for.

Subject: Resident Evil 6′s $1300 Premium Edition May be Headed to America Thu May 10, 2012 7:47 pm
‘Premium Edition’ of Resident Evil 6 It’s a lavish, $1300 ( ¥105,000) set of goodies that includes a replica of protagonist Leon Kennedy’s leather jacket, four tablet covers (not entirely sure what those are) and the game itself. Right now this princely package is exclusive to Japan, but Capcom may bring a couple of them stateside if they feel there’s demand. Right now they’re testing the waters with a poll over on Capcom Unity. If you’d be willing to plop down that huge wad of dough for this set, then you should head over and cast your vote.

Subject: New Video Published for Darksiders II-Behind the Mask: Death’s Story Thu May 10, 2012 8:09 pm
OMG IT's THE NEW SOUL REAVER & RAZIEL!!!! LOL jk.
A new video published today takes a behind the scenes look at the upcoming game, Darksiders II. The developers of the game talk about the new main character, Death of the Four Horseman. The sequel will take place at the same time as the first with War’s equally impressive brother, as he’ll try to prove that War is innocent from starting the Apocalypse ahead of schedule. Death will also struggle with his own personal demons and will try to redeem himself throughout the story.

GameStop and Square-Enix are partnering up to offer a new breed of pre-order incentive for the upcoming Hitman: Absolution. Players who pre-order the game at a GameStop store will get access to a unique stand-alone mission titled “Hitman: Sniper Challenge”. The unique twist comes in that this mission will be a downloadable affair rather than something in the core game. Hitman: Sniper Challenge will be available for download on May 15th for those who pre-order and is available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions.

The mission will feature a leaderboard and the top North American player at the time of the full games launch will win a trip for two to Denmark to meet the development team and have their likeness put into the next Hitman game. The sniper rifle being used in the mission will carry over to the full game as will any upgrades and unlockables you earn in the mission.
Subject: Retailers offering Agent 47 outfits, weapons for Absolution pre-orders Thu May 10, 2012 9:33 pm
It’s retailer-specific pre-order time, and this one’s a bit of a bummer.
Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy are all offering different Hitman: Absolution content for those who choose to put down their money early. They all look mighty good, so it’s a damn shame no one (reasonable) player can get them all, at launch at least. Chances are they’ll be released later on as DLC, but the ‘when’ is anyone’s guess right now.

Subject: Assassin’s Creed III to visit the Mayans? Fri May 11, 2012 1:53 pm
Pre-order bonuses are all over the place these days, yet very few of them provide anything drastically enticing to the eventual buyer; they’re often non-essential, dull and/or completely boring. That said, Ubisoft may just have hit the right button with Assassin’s Creed III.
With the new game comes a new assassin and a completely new setting, both of which are sure to revitalize the franchise. That includes side-missions, which may just be a bit more interesting this time around than in previous games. Then again, it wouldn’t take a lot to make that happen.

Pre-ordering the game at Best Buy will have you visiting the “Ghost of War” content, which seems to involve visiting a mine. If taken at face value, not very exciting, no. However, pre-ordering the game through GameStop will take you farther away from the colonies of the American revolution than you might have expected, to Mexico and the ancient ruins of the Mayans with “The Lost Mayan ruins” content
Subject: Latest developer video takes you “Behind the Wall” with Game of Thrones: The Game Fri May 11, 2012 8:19 pm
Cyanide has released a new video for Game of Thrones: The Game, which is narrated by project director Thomas Veauclin and lead game designer Sylvain Sechi. The video explains how the game came to be developed, how it was influenced by the HBO series, and how the studio worked alongside author George R.R. Martin to ensure the game was “faithful to the universe he imagined.” The duo are speaking English, but with French accents, so if you can’t understand them very well, just read the subtitles.

Subject: Dead Space 3 gets co-op - Report Sat May 12, 2012 10:47 am
Gamers will be able to buddy up in the unannounced Dead Space 3, according to a source speaking to IGN. Series hero Isaac Clarke will be able to journey through the game next to another character--described as "a man with a gnarly scar on his face"--who will act as Isaac's guide.
Isaac and a buddy will fight on a frozen planet, according to rumor. According to the site's source, Dead Space 3's co-op mode will feature the same story as the single-player campaign, but with some differences.

The example provided was that after a traumatic event, Isaac may experience hallucinations in single-player. But in co-op, this psychological breakdown does not occur. Additionally, players will be able to interact with the environment together, share ammo, and heal each other.
The site also reports that the plasma cutter weapon is being completely overhauled for Dead Space 3 and that for the first time, Isaac will be able to crouch as a means to stealthily maneuver through environments. Additionally, the game is to be set on a snow planet, with events focusing on a mysterious facility. The tipster also spilled the beans on enemies in Dead Space 3. Players will again fight the nasty necromorphs, but will also take on human enemies for the first time in the series. Lastly, Dead Space 3 is rumored to boast "skyscraper-sized" foes, including a "massive worm-like beast."
Subject: Tecmo Aims to Sell One Million Copies of Dead or Alive 5, Has Plans for Paid DLC Sat May 12, 2012 12:18 pm
Tecmo Koei has announced that it expects big sales for Dead or Alive 5. They plan for the game to sell at least one million copies globally. I wouldn’t exactly call that a lofty sales goal, especially considering that both of the last numbered DOA games cleared sales of one million even though they were exclusive to Microsoft’s consoles. That said, it definitely is a lofty goal, because times have changed and only the biggest and brightest fighting games achieve sales like that. Still, it shouldn’t be too difficult for a game this hyped and long awaited to clear one million units across both HD consoles, but maybe I’m looking at things the wrong way.

Tecmo also promises to support DOA5 post-launch with premium DLC content. Knowing the series, this will most likely consist of new costumes, but this is just a guess. Maybe they’ll surprise us. Hopefully they’ll release a good amount of free DLC too, like they did with Dead or Alive: Dimensions and Ninja Gaiden 3. Dead or Alive 5 will be available worldwide this September.
Subject: Valve, Blizzard reach agreement over DOTA dispute Sat May 12, 2012 8:58 pm
Blizzard and Valve have come to an agreement over the disputed DOTA trademark.
It’s been a while since this has been heard of, so a bit of back story: What started out as a popular Warcraft mod — Defense of the Ancients, or DOTA — was later trademarked by Valve for commercial purposes, namely DOTA 2. Understandably, Blizzard wasn’t happy and filed an opposition to the trademark, saying Valve had no rights to the name. In turn, Valve disagreed and has now apparently won the argument.
The pair has announced a solution; Valve’s DOTA 2 will continue to be called DOTA 2 while Blizzard is renaming its own upcoming DOTA game Blizzard All-Stars,
